As I have spent years searching my KRSKA/WOLF lines in Tama County, Iowa and surrounding areas I came across the name of HRSTKA and wondered if it might be a variant of KRSKA. In 1869 a baptismal record was made where the name KRSTKA was used for Albert Wolf and his wife, Frances. (Albert's name in the old country had been Adalbert Krska.) It was that record that made me realize that there was an excellent chance that the HRSTKA family could be related to the KRSKA family. But how to prove it? I have not found much material on John Hrstka and his wife, Mary Dusek, but will continue searching. The question may have to be answered by science.
One of the newest fields in science is DNA testing for genealogy. Not too long ago National Geographic offered DNA testing to all who wanted to participate in their Genographic Study. Stan Wolfe was one of their participants. He has since set up a website for those of Krska descendancy and related families where they can compare their DNA results called The Krska Project.
Currently, we are looking for a male descendant with the HRSTKA name who would be willing to participate in a DNA test to prove or disprove the theory mentioned up above. If you have any questions about DNA testing you can go toFAQ at FamilyTreeDNA.com or go directly to their home page at FamilyTreeDNA.com. You can email Stan Wolfe directly or myself and we will be glad to help you in any way we can.
This is the record of John Hrstka and his wife, Mary Dusek and their three children: Anna Mary Hrstka, Vaclav (or Vencil) Hrstka and Josephine Hrstka.
John and Mary Hrstka's daughter, Anna Mary, married Albert MUSEL and their daughter, Mary M. Musel, married Frank Edward ZEMAN. My grandmother would have known Mary and Frank Zeman, their children and all the cousins.
While I was still just a girl I remember my grandmother told me that all the Musel/Musil and Zeman families in Tama County, Iowa were related to us. I find it interesting that so many of the Musel and Zeman families come from the HRSTKA line. I believe these are those families that my grandmother was talking about and so to my grandmother, Mary Anna WOLF Smith, I dedicate this site.
